I am just getting back into knitting more after a break of a few years, although when I saw the jolly self patterning sock wool back in 2003 for the first time I started knitting more socks much to my husbands delight.
At the moment I am using patterns more than I used to, before I would often start knitting with only a vague plan, or see bits of various patterns I could combine together and yes sometimes I would sit down knit my tension squares for esch stitch and then work out a pattern for a whole garment especailly if it was aran knitting.
Just recently been to Ally Pally and went round drooling and feeling the lovely yarns on offer that I could not afford.
At the show I did buy some Panda Soy sock yarn, 500grm bargain bag of assorted yarn from Hipknits, 2 hanks of Mama Ocllo Baby Alpaca, the Jamieson & Smiths 2py Jumper wool for the little felted bags, 1 pair of 4mm Lantern Moon Rosewood Needles and 1 pair of 3.75mm Lantern Moon Ebony Needles
Speaking of Felting a good few years ago when i was still working I used to save up my silver coins ( I did then again recently for Ally Pally) and would go Liberty's after chrimbo sale with lots of money. One year I got a bargain bought some Edina Ronay 4ply 50% silk/50% botany wool a fair amount of red with some odd balls of other colours. With the bulk of the red I designed a knitted myself a lovely cardi, I lovingly wore and cared for this garment for many years and then this year someone, not me put it in the washing machine - Oh No - well it felts beautifully but I can't shrink myself to fit. See the little elephant below, yes that cute little baby - Knitted in Edina Ronay on size 14 ( 2mm) needles
Next Year 2009 I want to get back into some more creative knitting
